Yes, your clients (or your colleagues) face could be the reason that there’s tension between you. But not for the reason you think.
I’ve had a big day of awarenesses today and this particular topic came up for numerous clients so I thought It might be good timing and good information for even more people to be aware of how it might be effecting them. Hence, my second post for the day.
Take a trip down memory lane with me, all the way back to high school. There was that one fellow student or teacher who you just didn’t get along with. They had a certain personality trait that you didn’t gel with. How did they make you feel? What sorts of things did they say? How was their general demeanour?
What did they look like?
What shape was their nose?
Did they have big eyes?
Did they have a small, pointy chin? or
Perhaps wide-set ears?
Now, when you look at each of your clients or colleagues, does anyone have a similar nose, mouth, forehead, eyes, ears or chin?
When someone has a similar facial trait, we can subconsciously react in the same way we used to react around the person in high school. It’s all part of the body’s survival mechanism.
I have actually needed to diffuse the stress around my facial traits for a client before we worked together so that they felt comfortable opening up to me because as it turned out, my nose reminded them of the high school “gossip queen” they encountered years and years ago.
As a Kinesiologist, I hold my client’s confidentiality in high regard so I’m sure you can imagine that I was concerned that a client might not trust me (gasp!). So I then had to have the stress I was holding around the thought that someone might not trust me diffused. This just shows you how the body works and how well it can hold on to seemingly small details and then use them as triggers and reminders of how to work, behave and feel for future events.
Never underestimate the power of your body, mind and emotions to create what it thinks is a safe space for you. It thinks that it’s protecting you but sometimes it needs a little reminder that it can survive in a more healthy, natural way.
