Making Space


When you want something, when you’re calling it in, and doing all the “right things” and that something is not coming your way, perhaps it’s because there’s not enough room for it to be in your realm.

Making space could mean finding space physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, financially, energetically etc. There’s more than one way to make space for something new. A little creativity goes a long way and once you find just the right spot where you can make space, the universe is able to fill it with that new something you’re looking for.

As per the old adage, as one door closes, another opens, sometimes, letting go of one thing actually means inviting something else in.


Journey of a Modern Mystic: A Life Long Practice

As with any adventure you embark on, as the adventure unfolds, you tend feel like nothing has changed because day to day, the shifts aren’t always obvious. Yet, often when we look back at who we were, where we were when we began, we can see the difference and the changes that have taken place. It’s a real before and after that is quantifiable, tangible. that can’t always be seen while we’re in it.

My journey through the School of the Modern Mystic has been subtle in many ways, especially with the day to day working on and working in the material but when I look back at who I was before hand, how I felt before hand I can see and feel that I am very different than I was before.

While many things have shifted, I feel perhaps the biggest gift this beautiful school has given me is the gift of knowing what my own energy feels like.

Before this training, I felt tired, unwell and agitated about so many things. Now, when I am continuing these practices, I find that I have more energy, when I’m unwell I am not unwell for long and while I find myself getting agitated here and there, I know I only need to return to my practices to feel a sense of stillness again. I know that these practices are integral for my wellbeing, for my self-esteem, for my life to feel smooth and life’s challenges something that can be overcome.

I am human of course and I often fall off of my Modern Mystic Wagon but the support from my fellow Modern Mytsics is always there to help get me back on track. It is after all, a spiritual practice.

Without these practices, I know that I am a short fused, illness prone, tired, grumpy person. With them, I am energetic, I am still, I am comfortable in who I am and I make smart choices without really needing to work through them. They just seem to be easy to make.

If I get my energy field right, everything else just works. And I can tell you that fist hand. I’ve loved it so much i’ve begun level 2 to deepen the work of level 1.

Monday Mantra I Choose To Support Myself

People are amazing. They can be so positive, so encouraging and supporting. Unfortunately, we tend to show this support to everyone around us, sometimes going above and beyond to show it and yet we do not offer the same compassion to ourselves.

Instead, we talk down to ourselves, we say things to ourselves that we would not say to a friend who needed encouragement, we hold ourselves back from opportunities, we step away from self care, we beat ourselves up over situations that could not have been helped, we tell ourselves we could have done better, we tell ourselves that we should be doing something else, or we shouldn’t be doing something. We judge ourselves and belittle ourselves right when we need to be own best friend and offer words of encouragement and support.

If we don’t support ourselves, if we don’t back ourselves, if we don’t believe in ourselves, then we reinforce the feelings like no-one supports us, no-one backs us and that no-one believes in us and eventually, the people around us will begin to prove our own perception.

If you change your perception of yourself, begin supporting yourself, your abilities and believe in yourself, then eventually, the people around us will begin to prove that perception and support you too.

I know which one I’d like to choose. I choose to support myself.

Monday Mantra:: I Choose To See The Best in Myself

Monday Mantra I Choose To See The Best In Myself I have a great number of clients who are completely oblivious to their fabulous qualities. Qualities like generous, like calm, like decisive, qualities like actually being willing to try new things (including new modalities). They all say things like “I shouldn’t have done that” or “I should have chosen to do this” or “that was a bad decision”. The truth is that we are all human. We all makes choices for ourselves with the information we have on hand at any given point in time. We cannot presume to know what each choice will give us or take from us.

What we do have a choice over, is how we see ourselves and how we talk to ourselves about these decisions. Instead of saying “I shouldn’t have chosen to do that, that was a stupid choice”, think about it more carefully. Did you do the right thing at the time with the information you had? and if not, look at why you chose it – maybe you were at a point where you were willing to try anything to get healthy again (that’s an honourable place to be – some people just give up, you chose to keep trying).

All we need to do sometimes is take step back and look at the situation from another perspective. It’s okay to make decisions that lead you down the garden path, you’re human (as we all are) but how you choose to see the path, how you choose to talk to yourself about that choice will make all the difference to what you find at the end of your path. Today, lets begin by choosing to see the best in ourselves. The best in our decisions, the best in our body, the best in our intellect and the best in our qualities. This will have a flow on effect in your life, your body and those around you.

Monday Mantra I choose a better feeling thought   Put simply, when you find yourself thinking not so nice things, feeling not so nice, choose a better feeling thought. The more you choose a better feeling thought, the more you give your mind, body and spirit and a chance to not only feel better, but to attract situations and reasons to feel even better. Monday Mantra:: I Choose to Feel Good


I find myself getting worked up at having to run here and there throughout November and December. I sometimes get frustrated at feeling like I am never home, feeling like people take advantage of the holiday season and use it for an excuse to drink and fill our calendars with social events we can’t fit into our schedules. When I’m at my peak of frustration though, it’s usually about then that I “give up” and just go with the flow and enjoy whichever social occasion I’m at. But to be honest, that “giving up” is not what it seems to be. It’s actually a choice to feel good about the situation and a choice I could have made much earlier on in the piece.

The Human Super Power of Choice is one which gets forgotten way too quickly and way too easily.

Everyone has the power to choose. What to wear today, which way to go to work, what to have for lunch etc. We also have the power to choose what kind of life we want, what career we would like and how we respond to what life sends our way.

So, that means that you can choose to feel good while holiday shopping and you can choose to feel good while heading out to yet another holiday gathering. You can choose to not attend all of the social events. You can choose to attend them all. You can choose to do only the fun things if you wish. Change your holiday Have To’s into some Holiday Choose To’s today and see what difference it makes to your holiday season.

Monday Mantra:: I Go With The Flow


Because resistance is futile, I go with the flow.

It makes me happier. And when I’m happier, I feel better. And when I feel better, things just work out better for me. Easier said than done sometimes however, It’s a great practice to get into.

Think about driving down the street. There’s lots of traffic and you’re tired and all you want to do is get home and put your feet up. You sit in traffic and turn the radio up and sing along. You lose yourself in the tunes that are playing.

Then, screaming up behind you comes one of “those people”. They’re in a rush too but they’re frustrated and angry. They weave in and out of traffic, generally causing a fuss and working themselves up into more stress in the processes.

15 minutes down the road, you see that car. sitting at a set of lights, waiting to turn where you need to turn. You pull up behind them.

Now, you’ve both arrived at the same location at the very same time. The only difference is that you’re calm, relaxed and surely considering trying out for the next X-Factor because let’s face it, we all sound fabulous in the car! – and they are sitting in their car, more tired, angry and frustrated.

Monday Mantra:: I Always Have a Choice



Today’s Monday Mantra is for all of you who always feel like you’re the one picking up the pieces, always the person who is too busy to do anything for yourself, who always feels like it’s all up to them.

Regardless of what capacity you find yourself feeling pushed into something or stuck with something, remember that you always have a choice.

Just because you said yes to a project or event, doesn’t mean that you are then doomed to “have to” go or complete it. You always have a choice.

You always have a choice. In how to see things, how to hear things and how to say things.

You may have chosen to pile your projects up so high, you’ve left no room for yourself. Choose to let one or two go or refer them on to someone else who can assist.

You may have chosen a career path or course, only to decide that it’s not really what you want to do. Choose to change direction if that is what you want.

Holding onto something or staying in a situation when it doesn’t work for you, is actually more detrimental to your body, mind and spirit. It’s actually okay to say no, it’s actually okay to say “upon thinking about the situation, I’m not sure that this will fit in with my schedule / plans etc, so I’m going to have to let this project go.”

You always have a choice. You may not always be able to see it, but you definitely always have a choice.

Where do you currently feel like you don’t have a choice?
Where do you feel tired or frustrated?
Now think about what choices you made to bring you to that point?
And what choices can you make in order to relieve the pressure right now?

One Day at a Time
This article is inspired by a series of personal curve balls that I, and my family have been thrown over the last three weeks. They are not by any means simple and we are certainly not the only ones to ever have gone through these but I am in a unique position to help those beyond my own circle here through this blog. Here’s what I have learnt first hand over the last few weeks.

When things get crazy and life throws you a constant set of curve balls, it’s often easy to let your imagination run away from you or to let your mind reside in the past. Either way, it doesn’t do us good if we are not living in the present moment.

Yes, our long-term goals may be temporarily set off course and yes, it may mean a readjustment of the best way to get there but ultimately, the point is to take it one day at a time because sometimes, this is the best option. By focusing on the present moment, we give our body permission to relax a little. We let go of the “what if’s” (both past and present) and we get to see the situation from present day perspective.

The past
What is in the past, will remain there. We cannot change it by mulling it over or by going over every detail for how things might have been if we had made other choices. Those choices were already made and they cannot be undone.

What we CAN do however, is look for the lesson, look for the blessing. But looking for these can only be done from the present day perspective. If you living in the past, you’re blessing is out of focus, you need to widen the lens in order to get the clarity of the situation.

Ask Yourself:
Knowing what I know today, what was my gift then?
How has this made me a better person?
How can a I choose for this to make me a stronger, more focused person?

The Future
Looking too far into the future with what if’s, while in some instances can be a good thing, can in times of great stress be detrimental to our health. The what if’s, when you’re under stress, tend to only navigate toward the not so nice possibilities. It’s human nature to think of the worst-case scenario first.

Here’s the thing. The same principle applies to the future what ifs as it does to the past what if’s. You need to look for the lesson and the blessing but this needs to be done from the perspective of the present day.

Ask Yourself:
Knowing what I know today, what is my gift for the future?
How does this information or circumstance change my attitude or actions for a better future, regardless of the outcome?

The Present
The present is inherently the gift. After all, it’s not called the present for nothing. It is the gift of perspective, of clear focus if you choose to look for it.

You Define Who You Are

I don’t know about you but I’m really over the patronising “‘like’ if you have a heart, ignore if you don’t care” statuses on Facebook. It makes me worry how many people feel like they HAVE to do something in order to prove something to themselves and the Facebook society at large.

‘Like’ appears to be the new form of proving to the world that you care, have a heart, have friends you couldn’t live without, have family you love and people in your life who have fought battles both inside and out.

Liking a status, image or news item does not define you.

YOU define you.
