Journey of a Modern Mystic: A Life Long Practice

As with any adventure you embark on, as the adventure unfolds, you tend feel like nothing has changed because day to day, the shifts aren’t always obvious. Yet, often when we look back at who we were, where we were when we began, we can see the difference and the changes that have taken place. It’s a real before and after that is quantifiable, tangible. that can’t always be seen while we’re in it.

My journey through the School of the Modern Mystic has been subtle in many ways, especially with the day to day working on and working in the material but when I look back at who I was before hand, how I felt before hand I can see and feel that I am very different than I was before.

While many things have shifted, I feel perhaps the biggest gift this beautiful school has given me is the gift of knowing what my own energy feels like.

Before this training, I felt tired, unwell and agitated about so many things. Now, when I am continuing these practices, I find that I have more energy, when I’m unwell I am not unwell for long and while I find myself getting agitated here and there, I know I only need to return to my practices to feel a sense of stillness again. I know that these practices are integral for my wellbeing, for my self-esteem, for my life to feel smooth and life’s challenges something that can be overcome.

I am human of course and I often fall off of my Modern Mystic Wagon but the support from my fellow Modern Mytsics is always there to help get me back on track. It is after all, a spiritual practice.

Without these practices, I know that I am a short fused, illness prone, tired, grumpy person. With them, I am energetic, I am still, I am comfortable in who I am and I make smart choices without really needing to work through them. They just seem to be easy to make.

If I get my energy field right, everything else just works. And I can tell you that fist hand. I’ve loved it so much i’ve begun level 2 to deepen the work of level 1.

Journey of a Modern Mystic: A little time out

It occurred to me today that it’s been a while since my last post. This was not intentional at all but perhaps was needed.

You see, I’ve started a journey. It’s not entirely a new journey at all but it is definitely the first I have fully embraced as part of my energetically drawn self, my spiritual side, my intuitive side.

I’ve begun the Level 1 of Belinda Davidson’s School of The Modern Mystic (SoMM – see details and link below). While it was my intention to blog my way through this from go to whoa, I found myself holding on to this, just for me.

When I began studying Reiki and Tarot and Kinesiology, it was all about helping other people. Which of it’s self is a great thing, but when you do this at the expense of yourself and your own needs, it can get tiring, draining and very overwhelming. There are so many people to help!

So, when enrolled in SoMM, I decided that above all else, this course would be for me. Me first. I think that’s why I’ve found it so difficult to write a full post on the topic (I’ve got numerous drafts but nothing ever felt right to publish) because on some level, I needed it to be just for me. Perhaps at some point, I’ll be ready to share more of this journey with you all.

Right now, I find myself though compelled to share the fact that it’s okay to have something for yourself. Something that is for you. That’s not about healing the world, that’s not about taking care of everyone else, but simply about you holding space for you.

Yes, It’s easier said than done.

For me, I spend 35 minutes per day meditating (some days I don’t, some days I procrastinate which is just resistance but hey, I’m human). And then I spend a couple of hours on a Monday at the start of each SoMM module soaking in the course content and honouring each Chakra and each element as it arises. I give myself the gift of space and time to work on myself and the things that are important for me because without them, I don’t ever really feel like I’m 100% being my authentic self nor am I 100% present for all the other people and things in my life.

Start small. It can be as simple as 15 minutes you take out of your day to sit quietly and sip a cup of tea, just because you feel like it. It’s actually about honouring yourself and your needs and wants. Rather than running around the house thinking “argh, I have to get all this done before the kids get home” or feeling that being productive means getting things done and that’s more important. Sometimes, being productive means slowing down, taking a moment or 5 for yourself to centre back into being you again. If you feel good, you’ll get more stuff done anyway and you’re less likely to resent the things you have to do.

I officially give you permission to do something for yourself this week. Take a little time out for yourself, for YOU, for the fun of it, because you want to, because you deserve it and because above all, you are important too.

SoMM is the School of the Modern Mystic. It’s a self awareness, self love and spiritual practice. It’s a school where you learn first hand how your chakras work within yourself and your life. I can’t recommend it more highly. In fact, I’m also a proud affiliate because I love this course and what it’s meant for me and my life so far. Hone It & Own It

honeitandownit

I’ve tried to write this post about a million times. Words don’t really do the feeling justice. I am still on a high in a nice, grounded way. Still buzzing. Still processing. But here’s my attempt to explain what happened over the weekend for me.

I attended an Advanced Energy and Anatomy and Medical Intuition workshop last weekend with the amazing Belinda Davidson. It was unlike anything I had experienced before and I walked away from it feeling profoundly different. Not in a loud “AH HA!” kind of a way but in a deeper, inner knowing whispered “oh, now I understand” kind of way. Something clicked in me on so many levels.

From the get go, I knew there was something that was going to shift for me. And not in the way out there “woo woo” kind of way. The approach was grounded and direct with good serve of ‘no-nonsense’. That’s my kind of teacher.

I even awoke on the Saturday morning to ‘someone’ stroking my 6th chakra and a woman standing beside my bed telling me to get up “it’s time”.

While I walked away with many learnings from that weekend, there are some that have sat with me more than others. Here they are:

Looking after my own energy is the key to success
Not just in intuitive practices but in life in general. Again, I knew this intellectually but it had never really clicked for me until this weekend. I think it was the grounded approach to the message that really allowed this set in.

It’s okay to reschedule clients if you’re not in the zone
This one was on an intellectual level a big shift but on an energetic level was again more in the knowing whisper category of awareness. I always felt like I had to push on, push through seeing clients even when I felt tired or a little under the weather. I realise now that not taking time to tend to my own energy is doing my clients a disservice and it actually works in their best interest for me to reschedule if i’m having an off day.

And the biggest thing I got from the workshop was….

I was given the gift of knowing what holding my own energy feels like.
This is something I always knew intellectually was the thing to do. It was something I even thought I was doing in sessions with clients all these years. As it turns out – I was not and it is no wonder I feel so unwell after a week of seeing clients. I am so very grateful for this gift of knowing what it feels like. So still, so peaceful, so calm and light. So at one. Now I know what I need to aim for.

The key here is to hone your energy, your skill, your craft. Don’t just get good at it and then stop. Get great at it, “Aim for Amazing”. Then once you have, it’s really important to step up and own it. In owning it, you respect it. And when you respect it, others do too.

My first step in honing my energy and craft will be to take on some new study. I’m going to dig deeper into the knowledge I already have and I’m going t practice some of the techniques I learnt over the weekend too. I’m going to aim for amazing by honing it and owning it.
